Dario Salvi is a British-Italian conductor, researcher and musicologist. He is a busy recording artist for the classical label Naxos and featured guest conductor with several European and American orchestras. Current positions include Guest Conductor of Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra (New York) and Principal Guest Conductor for Concert Operetta Theater (Philadelphia).
He specialises in the preservation and restoration of Viennese music, particularly the works of the Strauss family and their contemporaries such as Czibulka, Ziehrer, Suppè, Millöcker, Genèe, Kàlmàn and Monti, which has led to him being awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership of the Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain.
As a recording artist, he has a long-standing relationship with Naxos and is currently working on completing the discographies of Johann Strauss II and Giacomo Meyerbeer, as well as a series of overtures and instrumental music by Auber and a series of romantic ballet. His most recent release is Meyerbeer: Sacred Works with soprano Andrew Chudak and the Neue Preußische Philharmonie (Naxos). A recording of Blindekuh - a long-lost comic opera by Strauss II - is forthcoming in March 2020, as recorded by Salvi and the Sofia Philharmonic and Chorus.
Other revivals have included: Freund Felix (Genée/Herrmann); Der Seekadet (Genée/Haffner); Das Brandenburger Tor (Meyerbeer/Veith); Romilda e Costanza (Meyerbeer/Rossi); Dos Tsubrokhene Fidele (Rushinsky/Thomashefsky); and Die Afrikareise (Suppé/West).
In 2012, under the tutelage of Sharon Choa (currently Chair of the School of Music at the HK Academy of Performing Arts), Dario obtained his Masters in Conducting from the University of East Anglia. During this time, he worked as Assistant Conductor and Arranger for Chamber Orchestra Anglia and founded the Imperial Vienna Orchestra, specialising in the authentic reproduction of Viennese music.
